The movie is about a feudal village In India before Independence. It depicts the atrocities by the landlords and things like that. Some of the scenes in the movie are very disturbing. The direction and everything is fine but I did not like the story at all. The director has portrayed too much misery which at times makes you feel uncomfortable. Maybe that's the reality before independence like no law order and stuffs like that.

Well, the negative characters were also never like Gabbar Singh. The movie has a great story line and nice adventure stuff too. The music is cool and overall a fun to watch. There's a strange part, the dialogues of this movie has appeared in many movies, stage plays, serials, soaps, advertisements, newspapers, etc. You won't find a Hindi speaking guy who doesn't know Sholay's dialogues. By this you can figure out in what fashion the movie was a hit.
